This independent group of opticians, are a well-established optical business with 45 years of experience and seven branches in their group. They are now seeking a dedicated and skilled Optometrist to join their team at the Birmingham area. Located in a high street area, the practice offers a range of services and prides itself on providing excellent patient care. As an Optometrist at this independent opticians, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient demographic and contribute to the growth and success of the branch.


Job Summary:


As an Optometrist, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations, including contact lens fittings, and providing appropriate recommendations and advice to patients. The branch has two testing rooms equipped with modern equipment, including Revo FC OCT, trial frames, phoropters, fundus camera, and Thompson test charts. The working environment is comfortable, air-conditioned, and operates on a paperless system using Optinet flex PMS for efficient record-keeping.

Responsibilities of the Optometrist


– Perform thorough eye examinations, including pre-screening procedures and contact lens fittings
– Provide accurate diagnoses and make appropriate recommendations for vision correction and eye health
– Collaborate with the team to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient practice operations
– Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry advancements, products, and technologies
– Uphold professional standards and follow legal and ethical guidelines


Requirements of the Optometrist


– Fully qualified Optometrist (newly qualified or experienced)
– Proficiency in conducting comprehensive eye examinations within a 30-minute time frame
– Competence in contact lens fittings and prescribing
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with patients and the team
– Ability to work well in a team environment and contribute to a positive working culture
– Commitment to professional development and continuous learning


Compensation of the Optometrist


– Competitive salary of up to £50,000 (dependent on experience)
– Performance-based bonus (approximately £100 per month, productivity-based on sight tests)
– 5 weeks of annual leave plus bank holidays and additional incremental days with long term service
– GOC fees covered
– CET courses and professional development opportunities
– Indemnity insurance
– Company sick pay (1 week full pay, additional incremental days with long term service)


Working Hours: Full-time position 5-days per week – Monday to Friday: 9:00 am to 5:30 pm + Saturday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
